Mukta Top Winter Trek Overview
Mukta Top Winter Trek is the perfect choice for all those who are craving for a virginal trek in Garhwal Uttarakhand. This region was opened for trekking only in 2018, so it is an untouched destination, making it ideal for those who love seclusion. The trek goes through a forest trail and you will come across a diverse range of flora and fauna when you embark on this trek. From the Mukta Top you will get spectacular views of snow-clad Gangotri ranges, Jaonli, Kalanag and Nag Tibba, and Bandarpoonch peak. During the winter months the entire meadow gets covered in thick layer of snow. The trek is perfect for both beginners and experienced trekkers and those who are wary of popular winter treks like Kedarkantha, Brahmatal, and Dayara Bugyal treks.

Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Dehradun to Kuflon village via Gangori
Today you will be transported to Kuflon village from Dehradun covering a distance of 160 km in 7-8 hours. During your journey the river Bhagirathi will flow alongside you. Upon reaching Kuflon you will be accommodated beside ASI Ganga River.
Day 2 : Kuflon to Shiladuni
On the first day of your trek, initially the route is flat and goes through market. Then the trail goes through forest and becomes steeper. All the trees like Oaks, Maples and Rhododendrons gets covered in snow during winter, making it a wonderful sight to behold. Then the trail crosses a stream and enters into a forest clearing called Shiaduni. There you will see shepherd’s hut on one side and snow covered mountains on the other side. Once you reach there you will call it a day. You can stroll leisurely in this beautiful campsite after lunch.
Day 3 : Shiladuni to Chaithathar camp
Today you will encounter steep climb while trekking towards Chaithathar. Firstly you have to cross a semi frozen stream and them reach the mid-point of your trek called Kuari. From here the trail gets a little tricky as you have to ascend through a snow-laden rocky path for an hour to reach a place from where you can see the valleys view and the campsite for first two days. The trail goes through bamboo forests to reach your campsite Chaithathar which is pretty unique in Uttarakhand. The campsite is located in another forest clearing where you will come across a semi-frozen stream and a shepherd’s hut.
Day 4: Trek from Chaithathar to Mukta Tal
Today your trail will be ascend gradually. You will reach a small clearing in two hours ascent. The opening remains covered by snow in winter season. From there you wil get astounding views of Bandarpoonch, Nag Tibba and Kala Nag peaks. From there you will ascend on a trail and then walk on snowy meadows to reach your campsite of Mukta Tal which is a small pond and offers close sight of Bandarpoonch.
Day 5 : Mukta Tal to Kuari camp via Mukta Top
Today you will hike to Mukta Top. You will be traversing through the snow-covered meadows above the Tal and then the trail climbs steeply to take you to the top. During the ascending hike on the snow you will get lovely views of Gangori group of peaks, Nag Tibba, Kala Nag, Bandarpunch peak and Jaonli peak. The summit hike will take around in 6/7 hours. After spending some time on the Mukta Top you will descend slowly and hike back to Kuari, your campsite for the day.
Day 6: Kuari to Dehradun via Kuflon
On the last day of the trek you will trek back to Kuflon, through the forest via Shiladuni. After reaching Kuflon you will be transported back to Dehradun.
