Patangini Dhar Trek Overview

Patangini Dhar Trek begins from Gangotri and goes via Kedartal. During the trek, you will witness magnificent peaks like Thalayasagar, Bhrigupanth , and the Gangotri group of peaks. The trek offers sight of many wild animals such as Bharal (blue sheep), Goral, and the Himalayan black bear and also a variety of birds. This trek is considered moderate and suited for experienced trekers, however, beginners with good physical fitness can also undertake this trek. Those who go for Auden’s col also follow the sililar trail that of this trek. Patangini Dhar Trek can also be clubbed together with Auden’s Col and Mayali Pass which is known as Three Pass trek.

Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri
Today you will be picked from Dehradun and transported to Gangotri covering a long distance of 237 km in 8-10 hrs. After reaching Gangotri you’ll spend the night in a comfortable Gangotri Home Stay
Day 2 Gangotri – Bhoj Kharak
Today you will trek for 5-6 hrs covering a distance of 8 km to reach Bhoj Kharak. At the beginning you will cross the bridge over the Bhagirathi River and start walking on the trail to the right. Today you will encounter steep climb so you need to maintain a slow yet steady pace. Before reaching Bhoj Kharak, you will come across Spider Wall which actually an inclined rock formation offering a very narrow passage. Our guide will help you traverse through this section. Upon reaching Bhoj Kharak you will rest in the camp and enjoy the stunning view of Mt. Thalaysagar.
Day 3: Bhoj Kharak – Kedar Kharak
Today you will trek for 4-5 hrs covering a distance of 5 km to reach Kedar Kharak. Today you will encounter challenging terrains and get to observe a diverse landscape. Your hike will begin on journey a trail adorned with Bhojpatra trees and many other wild bushes. As you hike upwards you will get majestic view of the Manda peaks and Bhrigupanth peak. There is one section of the trail called Gila Pahar where you have to pay close attention to your steps. In case we find this section of Gila Pahar is too rugged to navigate, we will choose another route which involves descending to Kedar Ganga and crossing the river. There you to trek against the river flow until you cross the Gila Pahar section and then you will catch the original trail leading to Kedar Kharak. You need to be very careful during this part of the trek to ensuring safety.
Day 4 : Kedar Kharak - Patangini Dhar Base Camp
Today you will trek for 2-3 hrs covering a distance of 5 km to reach Patangini Dhar Base Camp. Today you have to hike for a short period of time but it involves a steep incline. At the end of today’s hike our camp will be placed on a hanging ridge. This strategic camping place will help you acclimatize better which you will help during the steep ascent towards Patangini Dhar next day.
Day 5: Patangini Dhar Base Camp – Patangini Dhar – Nala Camp
Today you will be the toughest day of trek as you will hike for 8-9 hrs covering a distance of 11 km to reach Nala Camp via Patangini Dhar. Your hike will begin steeply upwards through the ridge of Patangni Dhar. You have to navigate carefully through a challenging boulder zone. Once you reach the pass, you can see the entire Kedar Basin and the encompassing mountain range including Auden’s Col if weather permits. From the pass you will continue to hike through the Rudugaira Nala traversing the glacier toward the base of Mount Rudugaira. From the campsite of Rudugaira Upper Nala you will get astounding panaromic view of Rudugaira peak, Gangotri I, Gangotri II, and Gangotri III and Jogin I.
Day 6: Nala Camp – Gangotri
Today you will trek back to Gangotri following the same trail you took when the trek began. You will srart hiking early and it will take around 6-7 hours covering a distance of 10 km.Once you reach Gangotri in the evening the trek will end.
Day 7: Gangotri to Dehradun
Today you will check out from Gangotri and begin your journey back to Dehradun covering a long distance of 237 km in 8-10 hrs.
