Mandani Valley Expedition Overview

The Mandani Valley Expedition lets you venture out in some less explored regions in Garhwal Uttarakhand. Being a part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, this expedition takes you through some remote valleys perched between some soaring cols and passes. Mandani Valley connects the Madmaheswar and Chorabari Glacier trails which is the source of the Mandakini River. During this expedition, you'll encounter picturesque meadows adorned with vibrant flowers, rich grasslands with diverse plants and animals. You will traverse on challenging terrains with steep boulders at three cols during the expedition. The highest point of the expedition is Bishali Col at 4750 meters offering awe-inspiring vistas of peaks like Chaukhamba, Kedarnath Peak, and Kedar Dome. Mandani Valley Expedition is best suited for seasoned trekkers with prior experience in high altitude treks.

Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Ransi
On the first day of your expedition you will be transferred to Ransi from Dehradun. This long road journey of 200 km will pass through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath and take around 8 hours. Upon arrival, you will check in into your hotel room and stay overnight.
Day 2: Ransi to Saniyara
Your expedition will kick off today as you will start hiking from Ransi to Saniyara. Today’s trail will be gentle on picturesque meadows till you reach the beautiful campsite of Saniyara. On arrival you will be accommodated in tent.
Day 3: Saniyara to Paturi
The trail will get a bit tougher today as you approach the next campsite at Paturi. You will hike on a forest trail and then on open grasslands crossing many meandering streams. It will take a long time to reach the campsite so you need to take adequate rest after reaching.
Day 4: Paturi to Thouli camp via Thouli top
Today is another long day as you will hike towards Thouli top on a steep ascending trail. From the tip you will get breathtaking views of many Himalayan peaks in the distance. From the trail you will follow a descending trail to reach Thouli campsite.
Day 5: Thouli camp to Dagla Bugyal via Dwara Pass Top
Today an ascending steep trail will take you to the top of the Dwara pass. From the top we will have to descend initially sharply then gradually towards your today’s campsite in the charming Dagla Bugiyal.
Day 6: Dagla Bugyal to Mandani Valley via Dubra Top
Today you will hike on a gradually ascending trail to reach Mandani Valley. Since you will reach there by afternoon you will have plenty of time to explore the rich variety of flora, fauna, and bird species that the valley is known for. The campsite of Mandani valley is picturesque and you will have great time for the rest of the day.
Day 7: Mandani Valley to Yembuk Col Base Camp
Today you will have to navigate boulder sections and hike on steep trails through moraine zones to reach the Yembuk Col Base Camp. It will be along day so rest properly once you get inside your tent.
Day 8: Yembuk Col Base Camp to Mahapanth Col Base Camp via Yembuk Col and Bishali Col
Today is the most challenging day of your expedition. You will trek to the Mahapanth Col Base Camp via Yembuk Col and Bishali Col. On this seemingly never-ending trail you will have to navigate glaciers, boulders, snowfields, and very steep ascending climbs. It will take around ten hours to complete today’s trail so it will be your test of endurance and stamina. The campsite at Mahapanth Col Base offers grand views of towering peaks.
Day 9: Mahapanth Col Base Camp to Kedranath via Mahapanth Col
Today your hike will start from the base on a steep ascending trail towards the top of Mahapanth Col. From the top a descending trail marked with boulders and icy patches will take you to the pilgrimage site of Kedarnath. You will spend the night in a lodge after many days in Kedarnath.
Day 10: Kedarnath to Dehradun via Gaurikund
The last day of the expedition will be a long day so you have to start early. You will firs descend on a well-marked 14-kilometer path to Gaurikund. From there you will be transferred to Dehradun were you will reach in the evening. Your Mandani Valley Expedition ends here.
