Lamkhaga Pass is one of the trickiest treks in Garhwal Uttarakhand. The pass connects Harsil valley in Garhwal with Himachal Pradesh’s near the Indo Tibetan border. During Lamkhaga Pass expedition you will pass through some remote areas of Himachal and Garhwal and come across dense forests rich in Pine, Deodar, and Bhojpatra, alpine meadows, boulder zone, snow fields and glaciers. Due to the rough terrain and tough gradient, Lamkhaga Pass Expedition is suitable for seasoned trekkers with prior experience of high altitude treks only.

Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Harsil
Today you will be transferred to Harsil from Dehradun by car. It will be a long road journey via Uttarkashi covering a distance of around 240 km in 8-9 hours. Upon reaching you will be accommodated in the hotel.
Day 2: Harsil to Lal Devta
Your expedition will begin today. The trail for today will be around 7 m long and will take about 4-5 hours. You will trek through forest mostly until you reach the Lal Devta camps where you will stay overnight.
Day 3: Lal Devta camp to Kyarkoti
Today you will again trek on a forest trail but cover a longer distance. You will trek for around 12 km in 6-7 hours until you reach kyarkoti campsite. During the trek you will continue to ascend and descend gradually and get glimpses of huge waterfalls in between. Kyarkoti is a beautiful place full of flowers and you may observe some mountain goats also.
Day 4: Kyarkoti to Lamkhaga base
The trail will start getting tougher from today. The climb to the base of the pass is steep so you need to start early. You will need proper equipment as the trail is through a narrow gully. You will come across ice crystals as you go higher. The campsite at the Lamkhaga base is cold and full of wildflowers in summer. Today you will cover a distance of 11 km in 6-7 hours.
Day 5: Acclimatization day
After gaining a lot of height in past few days you need to rest today to give your body enough time to acclimatize. You can go for a short hike to nearby places and come back to camp and sleep early to prepare well for the big day.
Day 6: Lamkhaga base camp to Dundhar camp via Lamkhaga Pass top
Today will be the longest and toughest day of this trek because you will ascend to the summit of Lamkhaga pass. You will start early today after breakfast and packed lunch with you. The climb will be steep through the rough boulder area. After few hours of tough trekking you will reach the Lamkhaga Pass top. From the top you will get outstanding view of snow-capped mountains and glaciers. After spending some time at the top you will be roped up as the descent will be steep again. You will continue descending through glacier and boulder zone until you reach the campsite of Dundhar. Today you will cover a total distance of 13 km in 7-8 hours.
Day 7: Dundhar to Dumti camp
It will be another long day so you have to start early again. Today’s trail will be a mix of sharp ascent and descent till you reach the campsite of Dumti. Again you will cover a total distance of 13 km in 7-8 hours today.
Day 8: Dumti camp to Rani Kanda
The trail will get a lot easier today. You will hike gently on a pleasant meadow laden with colourful wildflowers and get glimpses of waterfalls on your way to Rani Kanda campsite. You will cover a total distance of 9 km in 4-5 hours.
Day 9: Rani kanda to Chitkul
It will be another pleasant hike today to reach Chitkul, a beautiful hamlet located by the Baspa river. You will trek for a total distance of 10 km in 4-5 hours today. Once you reach the village of Chitkul your Lamkhaga Pass expedition will end.
